Given Names
Name spellings, contexts and relationships in one package. With evidence, documentation and a transparent account of coverage.
What you can build
A spelling reference for an application, exact name search, or a tool for exploring variants and components. Statistics help you study usage within a specific territory and period.
- Search for an exact spelling, preserving diacritics.
- Use relationships while preserving their type and direction.
- Check the source of an individual claim.
- Import the data into your own system.
Statistical coverage
The dataset contains separate series. They do not form a single global statistical series.
| Territory | Period | Coverage |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 2025 | SSA |
| England and Wales | 2025 | ONS |
| Berlin | 2023 | City only, not all of Germany |
| Cologne | 2010–2022 | Historical and name-position series |
No Russian national frequency series is included. Russian, German and English are project priorities, not properties of every record.
Inspect 16 sample records
An illustrative sample from the same corpus. It is neither random nor representative: it demonstrates different scripts, contexts and relationships.

What you should know
Coverage varies between records
Complete etymology, universal transliteration and worldwide completeness are not promised. Compound status is unknown for 148,938 records.
A name does not define a person
The data is not intended to reliably determine an individual person's gender or language. Different source claims are kept separate.
Relationships do not imply interchangeability
Check each relationship's type, direction and qualifications before using it for matching.
Licensing and provenance
The compiler's own protectable contribution and database are covered by CC BY-SA 4.0 where applicable. Original source terms remain in effect. Reader code: MIT; original explanatory text: CC BY 4.0.
Paying for the prepared package does not make the data exclusive or prohibit redistribution under the applicable licences.
